The National Housing Day 2024 Report is a detailed summary of the 4th annual HOME-RL National Housing Day event, which aimed to promote awareness of the challenges and success experienced by individuals with disabilities in regard to housing. The National Housing Day event brought attention to this matter and included a keynote by Meagan Miller from Community Housing Canada, two community roundtables, and closing remarks from the Honourable David Hickey.

The report highlights the disproportionate impact of increasing housing costs on individuals with disabilities in New Brunswick and comprises visual and written summaries from the keynote and roundtables. During the keynote, participants had the opportunity to learn about accessibility of community housing and challenges encountered by individuals with disabilities through audio storytelling.

The first community roundtable focused on what inclusive housing should look like in the future and shared experiences of self-advocates and their challenges with housing. Furthermore, the discussion emphasized the impact of accessible housing in promoting independence and opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

The second community roundtable addressed inclusive housing policies with various members of community agencies. The discussions explored the goals that are consistently being overlooked every year and underscored the themes of accessibility and affordability in housing, dignity of risk for individuals with disabilities, and the government’s responsibility in improving the housing system.
